The Land Just Outside Proficiency

Running on a trail, I fell and was humbled.

My breath -- and confidence -- was knocked out of me,
as I flew and landed flat on my stomach.

Lying there, embodying vulnerability,
I viscerally reconnected with the predicament of childhood.
Children live in a land just outside proficiency --
       the place where development resides.

How quickly we flee this territory as adults --
sacrificing challenge for competency, engagement for ease.

What would my life be,
should I return to living in the land just outside proficiency,
Engaging with others as fellow pilgrims
on a collective quest towards human potential?
